Biota is a private Israeli company founded by Mr. Meir Haber at the Technion’s Incubator in December 1999.
Since founding Biota Meir serve as the company CEO, managing Biota internal operations and multinational networking activities with academia and industry.
Meir is a graduate of the Technion in food engineering and biotechnology, and a veteran of the Israeli food industry, holding several positions from R&D and quality assurance to technological management.
Since October 2016 Meir is a member of EU COST Action ENBA Management Committee.
Biota major shareholders are the founder, APA Advanced Technologies Ltd., an Israeli private company, and Vaasan Rakennuskorjaus oy, a Finnish private company.
Biota technology utilize alginates unique film forming properties.
Alginates, generally recognized as safe (GRAS) polysaccharides extracted from brown marine macro-algae (seaweeds), have been used for many decades as thickening agents in the food and pharmaceutical industries.
Alginates form strong, flexible, transparent, odorless and tasteless films.
Upon placement in the oral cavity, alginate filmstrips adhere strongly to oral mucosa, and afterwards swell and dissolve by saliva without forming slimy inconvenience.
